National Nursing Home Week

This is always the week starting on Mother's day in May.
For 2009 it runs from May 10 - 17.

This is a big hoopla for nursing home activities departments.
They usually have entertainment everyday with a different sub-theme each day. Look to the page of various theme parties for ideas.

The basic theme for 2009 is "Nurturing a Love that Lasts", as set by the American Health Care Association .

This week is the busiest of the year and activity directors have to book entertainers early. As an entertainer, I usually do from 2 to 3 jobs a day during that week.

I always get calls from ADs who waited too long and are in a panic. I had booked all of nursing home week in August of the previous year. That should tell you something about the way entertainment bookings go.

Many facilities will have dining rooms and activity rooms redecorated on a daily basis to coordinate with the theme of the day.

For some reason they don't get a bonus in their pay for all that they have to do that week. There are a lot of theme party ideas that you can find on the theme party page
